How to Juggle Motherhood and Build a Business

Our business has always been our passion and first baby.

Finding the right balance between building and running a successful business and being a dedicated mom is no easy feat. As a business owner and a mother, we juggle multiple roles and responsibilities daily. It's a demanding and rewarding journey, but it can also be overwhelming without proper strategies in place.

These are our top picks to help maintain a healthy work-life balance as a business owner and a mom.

We’re by no means perfect and often (far too often) forget these things however a little practice can go a long way. Remember your family doesn’t need a perfect mom they just need a happy one!

1. Prioritize and Set Clear Boundaries

One of the first steps in achieving work-life balance is setting clear priorities and boundaries. Understand that you can't do everything at once despite thinking that you can. Something’s gotta give! Consider what truly matters to you and your family, and focus your time and energy on those areas.

Establish boundaries for work hours (this is a difficult one for us) and communicate them to your team, clients, and family. Having set boundaries will help you allocate time for work and personal life without feeling overwhelmed.

2. Delegate and Outsource

Recognize that you don't have to do it all alone. Delegate tasks in your business to capable team members or consider outsourcing tasks that don't require your direct involvement. This frees up your time to spend with your family and reduces the burden of trying to manage every aspect of your business.

At home, involve your family in household chores and responsibilities. Teaching your children about responsibility and teamwork can be a valuable life lesson, and it also lightens your load.

3. Create a Flexible Schedule

Flexibility is key when you're both a business owner and a mom. Design a flexible work schedule that allows you to be present for important family moments. Utilize tools like time-blocking to allocate specific hours for work, family time, and self-care.

Embrace technology to work remotely when possible, enabling you to be physically present for your family while staying connected to your business. Utilizing productivity apps and project management tools can also help streamline your work processes.

4. Self-Care Is Non-Negotiable

Self-care is often the first thing sacrificed in the quest for balance, but it should be a non-negotiable part of your routine. Remember that you can't pour from an empty cup. Allocate time for self-care activities that recharge you physically and mentally. This can include exercise, meditation, reading, or pursuing hobbies.

By taking care of yourself, you'll have the energy and mental clarity to manage your business and be a better parent.

5. Learn to Say No

As a business owner and a mom, you'll face numerous demands on your time and attention. It's essential to learn to say no to commitments that don't align with your priorities or will overload your schedule. Politely declining non-essential tasks or events is a valuable skill in maintaining balance.

6. Seek Support and Build a Support Network

Don't be afraid to ask for help or seek support from friends, family, or other business owners who have been in your shoes. Building a support network can provide you with valuable advice, encouragement, and a sense of community.

Balancing the roles of a business owner and a mom is challenging, but it's entirely possible with the right strategies in place. Remember that achieving work-life balance is an ongoing process that may require adjustments along the way. By taking deliberate steps to balance these two important aspects of your life, you can enjoy success in your business and create precious moments with your family.
